Assam Green tea is characterised by its light, grassy aroma and a subtly sweet flavour with hints of vegetal notes. The liquor tends to have a pale green or yellowish hue. This tea is prized for its high levels of antioxidants and potential health benefits, including improved metabolism, heart health, and overall well-being and helps towards weight loss. Like other green teas, Assam Green tea can be enjoyed hot or cold and is often brewed using lower water temperatures to prevent bitterness. With its distinctive flavour and healthful properties, Assam Green tea offers a refreshing alternative to traditional darker teas from the region.
Why Chelsea Tea?
Our ultra-premium World's First Elephant Friendly tea is handpicked personally by renowned Tenzing Bodosa and his local farmers and sourced directly from prestigious Fully Natural Elephant Friendly Tenzing Bodosa Estate, a single estate origin, established in 2007 to grow only natural and pure teas through bio-culture and no harmful pesticides or chemicals.
In the words of Tenzing Bodosa, “If you respect nature, nature will respect you. It is that simple.”
We have a dedicated team to Chelsea Tea to handpick small batches of best quality tea and pack them at source and ship immediately to retain maximum flavour cutting out the complex supply chain and delay.
History - Single Estate Origin
In the words of Tenzing Bodosa, “If you respect nature, nature will respect you. It is that simple.”
Tenzing’s ingle estate origin farm of Assam, India has been certified as the world’s first elephant-friendly farms by Wildlife Friendly Organisation.
The most interesting part of his farm is the buffer zone, which is the area at the end of his farm from where the jungle begins at the Bhutan border. He has left that part of the farm as is. He does not cut down the trees or start a fire there, instead he has planted bamboo trees on which the wild elephants feed. He has also not put any barriers in and around his plantation, so that the wild animals from the jungle can freely move in his farm.
Currently Tenzing’s tea is grown on sprawling 7.5 acres of plantation and is sold in Canada, Germany and US.
Tenzing has tied with Chelsea Tea Company, London recently and Tenzing’s Speciality Loose Tea can now be enjoyed in the UK as well for the first time! Tenzing is personally checking the quality of tea for Chelsea Tea ensuring customers get the best quality of tea right from farm to the cup.
At times, over 70 wild elephants come to his farm for food and water. Hornbills, wild pigs, deer, peacocks and a variety of birds is a common sight making the plantation wildlife friendly too.
“If you grow naturally, you can grow every seasonal crop in a tea farm, and you can maintain the ecological balance. When you maintain the ecological balance, you can see more birds and animals.
“I love the jungle because I grew up in a village. I love every tree. I respect every microorganism, every creature, every animal of the jungle. I love to grow. I am happy with my life,” he concludes.
Sustainable and Social Responsibility
Close to the Bhutan borders, this estate provides employment to many local tea workers in the Bodo Tribe and nearing Assam villagers providing them with decent wages. Tenzing has contributed to many welfare plans in his village and is building a primary school and library for the tea workers and their family. We work directly with the estate for the welfare of the workers. Choosing us you can be rest assured that you are buying from the right source.
We are also partnered with Switch Zero ensuring we are doing our bit for the environment. We do all the hard work, so you don't have to.
